Concepts 2025 – Photo as Object

What is a photographic object? Is it the marriage of a supposedly reproducible photographic print (whether using analog or digital methods of creation) with the single art object, which is not at all reproducible—that is a unique one-of-a kind beautiful material “thing” occupying space and haunting our memories with its tangibility? Is it a fine art print in the traditional sense of photographic tradition? Is it a one-of-a-kind “alternative” process print? Herein lies the tension for this call. How do you as a photographic artist define the photograph as object? Please submit your photographic objects that share meaning, create a narrative, build a conversation between object and viewer.

APG is honored to have as our esteemed juror, Mary Anne Redding, Senior Curator of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
