Atlanta Photography Group (APG) is now accepting entries from Georgia artist photographers for Focus 2025. This CFE is open themed and Anna Walker Skillman, Co-Founder and Creative Director, and Ashley Linpinsel, Gallery Director of Jackson Fine Art will be our esteemed jurors.

This exhibition is the inaugural event for the APG/Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia Purchase Award (MOCA GA), a $1,000 prize which is made possible through a generous grant from Chip Standifer. The selected artist will have their work become part of MOCA GA’s permanent collection and receive $1,000. This is a great opportunity to get your work in front of the premier photography gallery in Atlanta and the Southeast, and to be considered by Annette Cone-Skelton, President / CEO / Director of MOCA GA for the museum purchase award.

Anna Walker Skillman

As Co-Founder and Creative Director of Jackson Fine Art, Anna Walker Skillman is a respected and active participant in the arts community for the last 30 years. Jackson Fine Art is a member of The Association of International Photography Dealers (AIPAD) and she has previously served on their board. In addition to overseeing 9-12 exhibitions annually at the gallery, Skillman directs the artistic program of annual international art fairs including: Paris Photo, The Photography Show (AIPAD) in New York, Art Miami, and Intersect Aspen. Skillman educates about current trends within the medium of photography, and lectures on collecting photography with private and public institutions.

March 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of her leadership with a move to a new, custom-built, 4,000 square-foot gallery directly across from the street from the previous location. The new space is designed for expanded exhibition, office, inventory, library, and meeting spaces to keep pace with the evolution of contemporary photography while offering an enhanced experience for artists and collectors.

Born in Georgia, Ms. Skillman graduated in Art History from the University of Georgia in 1991 and then began her career working at the Haines Gallery, a leading contemporary art gallery in San Francisco. In 1993, Anna moved to Atlanta to manage the studio of artist Todd Murphy. After working with Murphy to help establish his career, Anna turned to photography and joined Jackson Fine Art in 1998 eventually serving as Gallery Director. Skillman purchased the gallery in 2003 from Jane Jackson, who became curator of the prestigious collection of Sir Elton John.

Skillman is honored to continue a reputation of excellence in exhibiting both emerging and established artists including Mona Kuhn, Bastiaan Woudt, Sheila Pree Bright, Mitch Epstein, John Chiara, Andrew Moore, Meghann Riepenhoff, Helen Levitt, Sally Mann, Abelardo Morell, Angela West and Masao Yamamoto among many others. Ashley Linpinsel

Ashley Linpinsel is the Gallery Director at Jackson Fine Art, a world-renowned gallery with a 33-year history of supporting artists and collectors. The gallery cultivates and guides both emerging and established collectors to the best fine art photography of the 20th and 21st century, across both traditional and innovative photo-based mediums. Working closely with collectors, curators, consultants, and designers, JFA provides expertise in a warm, welcoming space in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. In addition to 9-12 exhibitions annually, Jackson Fine Art participates in international art fairs including: Paris Photo; The Photography Show (AIPAD) in New York; Art Miami; and Intersect Aspen.

Ashley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Previously, she worked as a Photo Editor at Warner Bros. Discovery producing and managing photography across network brands such as TNT, TBS, TCM, CNN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. She collaborated and partnered with agencies to produce high-profile gallery shoots for PR and marketing, as well as, project managed prestigious events such as Comic Con, Screen Actors Guild Awards and TCM Classic Film Festival.

Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia

MOCA GA’s mission is to collect and archive significant, contemporary works by the artists of the state of Georgia. To place the artists in a global context, the Museum’s exhibitions include Georgia artists and artists from around the world. Their programs promote the visual arts by creating a forum for active interchange between artists and the community.

MOCA GA was founded in 2000 and presented its first exhibition in 2002. In recognition of a void in the Atlanta-area art institutions, MOCA GA was devoted to the contemporary arts in Georgia. MOCA GA has grown from 250 works by 110 Georgia artists to more than 1,600 works of art by 375 Georgia artists. The permanent collection continues to expand in size and depth by 50-100 pieces per year due to generous donations from their corporate sponsors and individual donors.

MOCA GA is a central leader in the arts in Georgia through investment in the community and preservation of the legacy of the past, present, and future of local art. The museum opens an average of 15 exhibitions each year, and presents work that is dynamic, challenging, and innovative. MOCA GA encourages engagement and exchange between artists it features and the community it serves through regularly scheduled artist talks and other public programming.

FILE PREPARATION

  • The juror will be selecting the images from all entries.
  • Export images as .jpg. Resize to 2100 px on the longest side.
  • Rename files to the titles of each work exactly as you wish it to appear (example: My Great Photo.jpg) Your name will be automatically prepended to the file upon upload.
  • Create a text file with your Personal Info (name, email, phone, website/social media), Artist Statement (500 words max), Bio (250 words max), and Image list (in this order: Title, Year piece was created, Print/Image Size (H x W), estimated Framed Size (H x W) Medium (archival pigment print, inkjet print, silver gelatin, cyanotype, etc.), and save this file as a Word doc or PDF.
  • The link to upload your files will be sent to you in your payment confirmation email. You will receive two emails after you pay. One will have the upload link. If you don’t receive two emails, check your spam folder.
