APG Spring Photo Walk with Beth Lilly
Arabia Mountain, just like the bigger and better-known monadnock Stone Mountain, is an outcropping of granite bedrock famous for its otherworldly landscapes of vast barren rock and rare plant species. Dotted with small pools and shallow quarries, the Preserve also features a lake and wooded areas with trails. https://www.nps.gov/places/arabia-mountain-national-heritage-area.htm
To take advantage of morning light and limited parking, we’ll meet at the trailhead/parking lot at 8am. Our guide, Beth Lilly, has been photographing in this park for many years and will give a brief “tour” of the park’s features and then you’re on your own to explore as you wish. Although the mountain is quite short, you should be able to hike 2-4 miles for this photo adventure. All participants will be required to follow the park’s posted rules. At 11am, we’ll convene at a local cafe for some socializing.
Registration is limited to 18 people. This will fill up fast so don’t delay!
Instructor
Beth Lilly is an artist, curator, teacher and the former executive director for Atlanta Photography Group. An exhibiting artist for over 30 years, recent exhibitions include Spalding Nix Fine Art, New Mexico Museum of Art, The High Museum of Art, the Zuckerman Museum, Whitespace Gallery, the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, and MOCA GA. Her work resides in the permanent collections of the High Museum, the New Mexico Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, MOCA GA, the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund and many private collections. She has taught photography for both Kennesaw State University, the Art Institute of Atlanta and the High Museum. Her critically acclaimed performance/interactive project “The Oracle @ WiFi” was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2012. Lilly earned a MFA in Photography from Georgia State University and an A.B.J. in Telecommunication Arts from the University of Georgia.
