Atlanta Photography Group (APG) is now taking submissions for Alan Avery Selects, APG’s feature exhibition for Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP), the month-long, citywide photography festival. The exhibition will be juried by Alan Avery, owner and curator of Alan Avery Art Company, the oldest sustained art gallery in Atlanta, which represents works by exciting and technically proficient emerging, mid-career, and internationally established career artists.
3 step entry process below
The Virginia Twinam Smith Award is an important part of this exhibition. APG will offer two artists one $500 award each for the purchase of their photograph for acquisition into the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. The show runs from Oct 12 – Nov 30, 2019.
Juror: Alan Avery
Alan Avery is the owner and curator of Alan Avery Art Company. He is responsible for reviewing and recommending artists for long-term representation and career development. Over his 35 years as one of the leading art dealers in Atlanta, Avery is credited with forging relationships and placement of numerous works of art with many leading institutions and museums across the country. During his 30+ year career Avery has brought to the city major exhibitions of some of the most important artists of our time, including Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miro, David Hockney, Alexander Calder, Chuck Close, Fredrick Hart, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, and Kara Walker.
“My goal is to bring together collectors with works of fine art while developing the collectors awareness of technique, composition, and experience. Art education and appreciation is a responsibility that I take seriously and hope that collectors learn to recognize works of art as a soulful experience rather than just items of decoration.”
Virginia Twinam Smith Award
Each year, two photographs from the Selects exhibition are awarded a $500 cash prize and the photographs are donated to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) for their permanent collection. Past recipients of the Virginia Twinam Smith Award include: Dale Niles, Tom Meiss, Peter Essick, Malgorzata Florkowska, Joseph Pizzuto, Amanda Greene, Meredith Howard, Jack Lawing, and Jennifer Lawsky.
