Reality & Truth. an exhibition, by documentary photographer Gerald Straw, is a look back at 1970’s life in New York City.  A collection of 24 of Straw’s images will be on exhibition in APG’s Maloof Gallery from December 7, 2019 – January 9, 2020, with an opening reception December 7, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm.

Meet the Artist & Artist Talk: January 4, 2020 – 12-1pm

“These images аre a representative pieces of history and speak to a much larger historical picture collected years ago. They depict what Gerald saw in a different time and place and are intended to tell a story steeped in reality and truth that existed in parts of New York’s inner city during the 1970’s.” says APG’s Executive Director, Judith Pishnery.

This exhibition conveys much more than what is stereotypically presented about an inner-city minority environment. It conveys beauty in the “everyday” and reflects the power of human dignity and human interaction.

The setting is New York City, but the story and the feeling that exists in this work captures a moment in time that is still relevant today in many cities across America. Each image tells a different story, expresses a different feeling, and possesses moments that belong to themselves, yet continue to exist today in the minds of those who carry on the photographic heritage of inner city documentary.
