Back by popular demand, APG welcomes Julie Brook Alexander to uncover the mysteries behind her reverberating images that captivated many viewers during our 2017 Director’s Cut Exhibition.
Since 2013, Julie Brook Alexander has concentrated on uniting pairs of original images from different aspects of the natural world. . Whether a location is far away or close to home, she observes small details and amazing vistas. The most recent series, Filling in the Blanks, was a finalist for Critical Mass, and received a Julia Margaret Cameron category award for Fine Art nature series at the Berlin FotoBienalle 2016. Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Musee de Arte Moderne in Rio de Janeiro, Lehigh University Art Gallery in Bethlehem, PA, the Children’s Museum of Houston, and numerous private and corporate collections.
Alexander earned a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and two Master’s degrees from Rice University in Houston, Texas including a MA in Teaching with a concentration in Art. The most recent series, Filling in the Blanks, was a finalist for Critical Mass, invited to Review Santa Fe 2016, reviewed by Fotorelevance, and received a Julia Margaret Cameron category award for Fine Art nature series at the Berlin FotoBienalle 2016. In 2017, excerpts from this project were included in APG’s Director’s Cut exhibition. SPOT Magazine of the Houston Center for Photography reviewed the first series of diptychs in its Spring 2014 issue. Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Musee de Arte Moderne in Rio de Janeiro, Lehigh University Art Gallery in Bethlehem, PA, the Children’s Museum of Houston, and numerous private and corporate collections. Hooks-Epstein Galleries, Inc. has represented her work in Houston since 2005.
