Honing Your Artist Statement
Whether we write to accompany our work in galleries or to promote our work through project proposals, grant applications, applications for residencies, and so on, it is imperative that we write clearly and compellingly about our work. In this workshop, instructor J. Russell Cambron will help participants to write effectively for artistic and professional publication.
Applicants should come prepared with a 250 – 300 word statement on a current or existing project, along with at least 5 images from this project. We will review each participant’s statement as a group and provide feedback as well as time for revisions.
J. Russell Cambron is an Atlanta-based artist whose media include photography and writing. His work deals with themes of memory, identity, and beauty.
Russell began his artistic career studying music education at what is now the University of North Georgia. He holds M.F.A. degrees in photography and writing from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
Russell’s visual works have shown throughout the Southeast, including Whitespec gallery in Atlanta and the SE Center for Photography in Greenville, SC. His written works have been published in the Ivy Hall Review and the award-winning SCAD Connector.
