The Atlanta Photography Group (APG) announced today the opening of their new gallery space at Ansley Mall, which will host exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, art sales, and more starting in mid-July 2021. The new gallery space includes a main gallery, a smaller, secondary gallery for workshops and smaller exhibitions, and a loft space for viewing work and consulting with artists.
New workshops, critique groups and artist talks will begin in August and a new season of exhibitions will kick off with the Portfolio 2021 show in late-July. Even as businesses reopen in Atlanta post-pandemic, APG will continue to offer many workshops, critiques, and other events online, as well as in person, to best support our geographically dispersed membership.
After more than 20 years in Buckhead, APG “went virtual” in January 2021, while beginning an expansive search for a new location that would better serve the needs of our members. After six-months of intensive canvasing throughout metro Atlanta, the board of directors secured the new location at the junction of Piedmont Road and Monroe Drive.
“We recognized, even prior to the pandemic, that our former location no longer provided our members with all of the opportunities or experiences that we wanted for them. When looking for a new home for APG’s gallery, it was crucial that our gallery be convenient and accessible to our members, sponsors, and the public, while surrounded by a vibrant community of partners who could further support our staff, our mission, and our members, and we found that at Ansley”, explained Chairman of the Board, Chip Standifer.
The Ansley Mall offers popular restaurants including Bantam & Biddy and ChopT, the interior design group – Intaglia Home Collections, a high-end fashion boutique – Mode Marche, Starbucks and LA Fitness. In addition, a newly planned multi-restaurant hub is currently in development and set to launch within the next year, which will directly bridge Ansley to the Atlanta Beltline, located behind the complex.
“Artists want to be where there is life. Amazing Atlanta neighborhoods surround Ansley, and it is clear that there is an investment by those residents in the complex. When visitors, members and staff come to the gallery space they can be in an energized environment, sit outside, have a wonderful meal or shop. In addition to providing a more dynamic atmosphere, there is increased opportunity for members to get greater exposure for their work and that is critical,” said Incoming Executive Director, Donna Garcia.
The Atlanta Photography Group gallery will be open, Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 7pm at 1544 Piedmont Road #107, Atlanta, Georgia 30324. Ansley Mall offers ample, free parking with live 24/7 security, for the safety and convenience of visitors and staff.
