Into the Studio:
Creative Collaboration with Cynthia Lollis and Daniela Deeg
Please join us for the inaugural session of APG’s Into the Studio Summer 2023, showcasing the collaborative book arts partnership between Cynthia Lollis, APG’s esteemed resident book arts instructor, and Germany-based book artist, Daniela Deeg. This is a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse into the creative synergy between two internationally acclaimed artists, who have come together “Into the Studio” for this special event.
Set in the Atlanta Printmaker’s Studio’s stunning new location, Lollis and Deeg will take you into the world of professional book arts, sharing their insights on the collaborative art-making process. Learn about making handmade artist books as they delve into the ins and outs of collaborating across continents. This is a rare opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the collaborative artistic processes and behind-the-scenes details of their latest project.
Cynthia Lollis is a professor of printmaking and book arts in Atlanta, Georgia. Her collaborative partner, Daniela Deeg is a printmaker, book artist, and art director in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Together, they publish work as ETC Press. Both artists earned M.F.A. degrees in Printmaking from the University of Georgia (UGA). Their collaboration got its start when they won a publishing award to produce a book in Mainz, Germany during the “Gutenberg-Jahr 2000.” Lollis and Deeg are actively making artists’ books and print editions together two decades later. Their ETC Press work can be found in libraries, museums, and private collections in Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the USA. Their collaborative artists’ books are featured in the following publications: Masters: Book Arts: Major Works by Leading Artists (2011), Kunst verbucht: Handschriften und frühe Drucke als Quellen der Inspiration für das Künstlerbuch (2015), Booknesses: Artists’ Books from the Jack Ginsberg Collection (2017), and La Bibliothèque nationale du Luxembourg’s Multiple – Vielseitig (2020). In fall 2022, Lollis and Deeg presented the reflective paper, “ETC Press: Two Decades of Transatlantic Collaboration” at the IMPACT 12 Conference in Bristol, UK. This spring, they returned to UGA to talk about their collaborative work for the Lamar Dodd School of Art’s Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture series.
