Environmental advocacy and conservation will continue as a prominent concern for years to come. Photography’s strength as a visual form of communication takes a vital role in advocacy. This workshop will cover various historical, philosophical, aesthetic and technical approaches to contemporary, expressive landscape photograph, while examining our own personal responses to the landscape and environmental concerns through our own photography.
With the growing importance of video usage in social media, this workshop will focus on how to get in on the action. In this two-hour introduction to Utilizing Video for Social Media, we will walk through a variety of social media video features and iPhone apps for video. We will also look at ways to edit short, interesting clips in Premiere Pro, optimize settings for exporting video for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, as well as how to use Reels and Tik Tok. Note: This is a reschedule for the September 8, 2021 class. If you were registered for that class, you do not need to register again.
Learn to write about your photography and craft effective and convincing artist statements. Photographer and author, Micah Cash, will walk you through what makes a compelling artist statement, and how to articulate your process and concept for a variety of outlets – including project proposals, grant applications, and long-form essays for publication. Participants will workshop their artist statements with the group and learn how to adapt their narratives for exhibitions and publication.

We’ve reached a turning point where a photographer is expected to understand the mechanics of video as well as photography. The lines between the still photographer and videographer are blurred. While you can make a respectable living shooting mainly - or only - photography, the market is opening wider and wider for artists who can do both. This 4-week workshop will take you from concept to creation to critique of a personal video project
