We’ve reached a turning point where a photographer is expected to understand the mechanics of video as well as photography. The lines between the still photographer and videographer are blurred. While you can make a respectable living shooting mainly - or only - photography, the market is opening wider and wider for artists who can do both. This 4-week workshop will take you from concept to creation to critique of a personal video project
This workshop focuses on the dynamic relationship between humankind and animals. Artists have been photographing animals, domestic and wild, since the early days of photography. Animals have been the subject matter for many famous photographers, working in various categories such as documentary, analog, editorial and fine art. As Elliot Erwitt once famously said, “Dogs don’t mind being photographed in compromising situations.” Many of us share our lives and homes with a dog or a cat, while also sharing natural spaces with wildlife on a daily basis. Animals in photography have been used to tell stories, create metaphors or to educate the public on contemporary issues. How animals are perceived matters, especially as the loss of habitat around the world is bringing people and animals into closer contact. In this workshop, we will look at the various ways animals have been portrayed and used in photography. We will also discuss artist statements and visual elements such as composition, color, content and how it applies to subject matter. Participants will create their own animal related project and share it with the group at the end of the workshop.

9:00 am - 11:59 pm
For this non-juried show, APG members are invited to bring framed prints to the APG Gallery to sell during the holiday season. The month of December is the busiest time of the year at the gallery for shoppers, so this is a great opportunity to show your work and generate sales. And rather than waiting until the end of the exhibition, buyers will be able to take home their artwork directly after purchase.

Atlanta Photography Group presents Exhibition: Catherine Couturier SELECTS 2021, photographic artists from Georgia to Minnesota.
Photographic works selected by juror Catherine Couturier. This exhibition takes place Oct. 11 - Nov. 19 at the new Atlanta Photography Group gallery at Ansley Mall.
Note: Opening Reception & Artist Talk - Oct. 14 from 5-8pm.
Matt Haffner is a mixed-media artist whose gritty and aesthetically graphic artworks range from large-scale installations to diminutive works on paper. His urban and mythological themed works are made from combinations of humble materials including; wheat-pasted paper, cardboard, newsprint, salvaged street signs, rusted metal, and spray paint that pay homage to his roots as a street artist and to his interest in the city’s periphery. He often combines his drawings with video projections and photographs that explore ideas about multilayered vision and investigate the dynamic between the static and moving image.
