The Atlanta Photography Group is excited to announce our next CFE, Tell Me A Story, which is celebrating street and documentary photography of all styles with a strong narrative. We are looking for your most compelling stories – they can be candid depictions of everyday life, shadows of the city streets, the abandonment of a country road, subtle moments of joy, humor, love, fear or anxiety. Think of work like that created by Diane Arbus, Bruce Davidson, Robert Frank, Josef Koudleka, Helen Levitt, Baldwin Lee, Roy DeCarava, Mary Ellen Mark, Daido Moriyama, Lee Friedlander, Lisette Model, Gordon Parks, and Harry Callahan.

APG is thrilled to have Dan Burkholder for this 3 session online workshop. Dan is recognized as one of contemporary photography's pioneers and one of the first photographers to see the iPhone as a serious option for the fine art photographer. The way we use our iPhones to photograph advances almost daily. This workshop introduces you to new ways to shoot, edit and stylize your photos, taking you from casual captures to inspiring artwork. Your every iPhone Artistry urge will have time to flex and stretch, learning the latest skills that empower you to craft images that you’ll be proud to share, exhibit and sell. And, yes, you’ll learn when it is time to pick up a larger camera for specific tasks, yet still use your iPhone or iPad to edit these photos, too.

Demos will be given on how to construct accordion books three different ways, plus a few more variations. Along the way, students will create their own handmade books that express their personal photographic content. Join us for another session of Into the Studio as we explore one of the ways photographers can traditional printmaking techniques to produce editioned fine art photographic prints. Chine-collé, an extraordinary printmaking process that uses delicate Japanese paper and expert craftsmanship to produce handcrafted, museum quality, archival prints. In this exclusive workshop, the Atlanta Photography Group (APG) features printmaker and acclaimed fine art photographer, Anne Berry as she takes us through the process that she uses to make chine-collé prints in her studio.

Zines offer exciting potential as a platform for creative expression and as a democratized platform that can help get your work out into the world. In the digital age, a photo zine can fulfill the desire to make, hold, feel, and sense a tangible art object. Photo zines can help artists raise awareness about their work, reach new audiences in a fresh new style. Making a photo zine can also help you test the waters if you plan to publish a photo book.

Led by Atlanta-based photographic artist Russell Cambron, who holds M.F.A. degrees in writing and photography, the Written Pictures workshop explores techniques for successfully blending images and text to create impactful narratives. Written Pictures will begin by looking at the ways lens-based artists employ text in their work. This will include a survey of photographers like Barbara Kruger and Shirin Neshat, who overlay text on their images to make pointed social critique; Duane Michals, whose handwritten texts weave together his photographs into whimsical and philosophical narratives; and Bernard Faucon, who inserts three-dimensional text sculptures into landscapes and, at other times, writes directly on his subjects. We will also consider participants’ unique interests and visions for combining text with their images and will tailor the workshop accordingly. Over the course of our three sessions together, participants will realize their own compositions of images and text and will have the opportunity to benefit from each other’s experience and expertise through a series of workshop critiques.
